The use of environment friendly processes is becoming more popular in the pulp and paper industry and therefore biotechnological processes are coming to the forefront of research. Biotechnology is defined as the use of biological organisms/ systems and processes for practical or commercial purposes.Enzymes have opened up a new dimension in the paper Industry by virtue of their application with respect to its usage in lowering of chemical load, energy saving and low loads on effluent treatment plant.

With increased pressure on AOX levels, global focus on Enzymatic Bleaching has grown. CHEMZYME develops purified Xylanases and Hemicellulases that render the pulp Lignin easily accessible to bleaching chemicals, substantially reducing its need. Enzymatic De-inking allows recycle paper make brighter paper at neutral process condition, reducing effluent load and increasing productivity

Fibrillating Cellulases work on the fiber surface to induce fibrillation and improves the strength of paper by increasing fiber contact and bonding. Preparing the fiber increasingly susceptible to refiner blade action, reduces the need of conventional refining and large decrease in pulp freeness can be produced at light refining action by blades. On the other hand, Fine Hydrolasing enzymes are suitable for reducing fines in slow moving stock resulting in better machine speed and better drying, without compromising properties.
